Cauldron ReviewThe white-bearded wizard is beholding the witches brew that’s cooking under his pointed nose, and a quick glance at the visual presentation is enough to sniff out that we’re dealing with yet another Peter & Sons creation. There’s no quirkiness to be found in the title this time however, but Cauldron is certainly fitting the bill.

The gameplay itself is pretty straightforward stuff, and not all that much goes on in the base game except symbol and wild wins. You will collect scatters however, and filling the meter awards the Super Bonus Round this Armanian developer tends to favor. The regular bonus round comes about a bit more often, but high volatility has been combined with a mediocre 2,000x potential this time, something that seems a bit strange compared to previous releases.

The gold coin wild steps in for all regular pay symbols, and it can land on reels 2, 3 and 4 only. Every bonus scatter bottle you land is collected in a meter on the left-hand side, and you need to collect 750 bonus bottles to fill the meter. This triggers the Super Bonus Round, but let’s cover the regular bonus round first.

You trigger the Free Spins round by landing 3 or more bottle scatters on the same spin, and this gives you 10 free spins for starters. Both are included in Cauldron, and we’re glad to see that they’ve also dared to be more experimental in the features department this time. Nothing too extraordinary mind you, but still a step in the right direction for the budding Armenian developer. The biggest drawback is the unusually low potential, combined with highly volatile gameplay.

The base game doesn’t offer all that much, except splendid animations and the occasional wild win, so you’re really just waiting to trigger the bonus round. Success follows if you manage to remove low value symbols - and upgrade high value symbols - as early as possible. Initial dead spins usually means the feature is spent, but you might limp along with extra spins to save what’s left by the skin of your teeth. That might not be all that much though, since 2,000x was the most this game dished out in 1 billion spins during testing.
